Project
This series of experiments, titled Hybrid Paintings, was created in collaboration with Ben Tritt and the robots at Matr Labs.*
Heavy Rain's hybrid painting originates from recordings during my expeditions in (my) outer space. In this sonic experiment, I explore echoes and resonances from my interactions with the murmurs of nature, cities, other species, and objects.
This prototype is part of a broader collection of non-human voices. This one, in particular, captures the "voice" of the Palo de Agua, the expression used in Venezuela to describe heavy rain. In this piece, I meditate on the experience of inhabiting the space of the rain and becoming the subtle exchanges we sustain with it—its sound and presence, its texture, its matter, the pressure it exerts on us, and its humidity. Where my humanity is not enough to fully experience existence, I have found machines extending me a little further, enabling a deeper connection with other entities and realities.
