ABOUT THIS COLLECTION

Hybrid Drawings is a series of experimental works situated at the intersection of poetry, art, and robotics. Each drawing originates from a recorded sound, which I subsequently transcribe in collaboration with the Postpoetic Machine. These hybrid poems are shaped by algorithmic, human, and non-human interventions. Their original source resides within the digital realm.

The series unfolds as a collection of perceptual records—instances in which multiple layers of experience converge into a single field. It emerges from a spontaneous, improvised meditation in which I became aware of overlapping presences: the murmur of the city at a specific moment, the cyclical rhythm of a washing machine running in the background, the friction of rain striking the ground, and the distant resonance of whale communication playing on my computer. Each piece captures this superimposition, forming a hybrid landscape constructed through a precise moment of perception. In this sense, the works operate as fragments—part Dada, part happening—where the immediacy of lived experience is recorded as it unfolds.

Through custom software I have developed, these recordings are translated into visual scores and reproduced as prints executed jointly by a human and a drawing machine. The resulting works are transcriptions of the material traces of vibration, pattern, and time. The mechanical precision of the plotter intersects with the variability inherent in environmental and human inputs. These images would be nearly impossible to reproduce were the task to fall solely upon a machine or solely upon a human; both agents are essential. At this intersection of the human, natural, and technological dimensions, the visual field transforms into a hybrid landscape. The works propose a form of post-poetic language in which perception emerges through entanglement—a state in which I simultaneously record and am shaped by the very forces that generate the image.

Behind the Scenes

The creative process began with an algorithmically generated transcription derived from audio recordings. La Máquina Postpoética (a piece of custom software) translated the patterns and structures of the poems into visual compositions that encoded rhythm, density, and relational patterns.

While observing the robotic arm in the act of drawing, I realized that this vibrational language exceeded its original source. What began as a transcription of rain was no longer simply an image or representation. As the machine traced its circular movements—translating sound into score—its motion began to enact the phenomenon itself. The sign was reconfigured within the language of the machine: through its gestures, the robotic arm was not depicting the heavy rain or the whale songs, but performing it. Drawing, as movement, became a form of playback; the machine “played” the sound as a mechanical interpretation of rain.

The production of this work opened a new performative dimension in the human–machine relationship.

Thank you for supporting this work. Each painting carries the memory of a dialogue between body, algorithm, and matter. Owning a piece means holding a record of that negotiation—a singular artifact in the evolving story of hybrid creation. Your support directly funds future experiments and other projects exploring the intersections of human and machine creativity.
